Help me give my students two types of flexible seating to help support their learning and focus success. The wobble chairs are for small group learning and the wobble cushions are for individual floor and seat learning.
I am lucky to work with 25 first graders every day who join me at school ready and excited to learn about anything they can get their hands on! My students come from a wide variety of home situations and supports, as well as having multiple learning challenges and opportunities, which impacts their abilities to stay focused throughout the long school day. Their specific needs include the necessity for flexible seating. The power of changing the types of seats that the students can move to sit in for different parts of our day is strongly connected with a higher level of productivity. They simply attain a higher level of quality work, while enjoying their learning time!
We are a beautifully diverse school of over 500 students in grades Pre-K through 5th.
We are an inclusive community and support the education of all learning styles. Our main goal is to help students to be “future ready and community strong”. 58% of our students receive free or reduced meals from our state funded program.
My Project
First grade students are expected to meet with me in small groups and individually at a kidney table daily. This helps me provide them with the level of instruction that each individual child is ready to receive. Since they are expected to do some of their daily learning in a traditional seat at their desks, the wobble chairs will help them continue to focus on expected learning while getting physical activity at the same time.
The wobble cushions have a similar purpose, but will be used either on the floor when student work on individual responsibilities within cooperative groups or they may place it on their traditional chair when their focus is being challenged.
The students' academic productivity will be stronger when they have parts of their school days moving their bodies on these special tools.
