My special needs students are a diverse group of young students with Behavioral, Learning, Emotional, and Social disorders that make learning in a typical classroom very overwhelming and difficult.
My special needs class of Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students are awesome!
They are motivated to learn and enjoy using technology that their peers are using. Most of my students are from lower, socioeconomic homes. In the classroom, our needs are many, but my students are unique and special in every way. They do not have computers or IPads in their homes, so I'd like to make technology an integral part of my instruction during school hours.
I'd love to ensure my eager and motivated students the chance to be successful and more knowledgeable with technology. The IPads will help enhance what I'm teaching and continue to align my goals to the Common Core Learning Standards.
My Project
The IPad offers an individual interaction that the student can control while learning and developing. We will use applications that are specifically designed for specialized learning. Our students who struggle with organization will use the dictation feature and Siri to assist with writing tasks and assignment due dates. Word Prediction, Speak Selection, Guided Access, and Safari Reader will also allow for more autonomy in learning.
Working with special needs students in small groups with the IPads at our disposal, will help them become independent learners and teach them how to navigate and interact with technology which is a real life skill that they will need for their future.
This project and your generous donation will make a difference in these special needs students' learning because it will allow an alternative way to learning for students who struggle already.
