Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 1st grade students are hard workers who love reading, writing, and learning math. The student population is primarily African-American with a growing Haitian Creole community. Our school also serves military families, as we are located near an Army base in North Carolina.
Our school is Title I and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are an amazing group of children who are excited to come to school to do their best. I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to grow and continue to succeed.
My Project
My first graders thrive on hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities. Many of my students say that science is their favorite subject in school. These materials will allow my students to investigate different animals and lead to meaningful discussions with their classmates.
My students love learning about animals!
Whenever I do a read aloud book about animals they are so excited and filled with questions. I feel that my students would benefit from being able to touch different animal replicas and bring their learning to a whole new level. The tub of animals will be a great addition to our STEAM centers and allow for new dramatic play experiences. Many of my students have never visited a zoo or had the opportunity to see many live animals. I would love to inspire them to protect our animals for the future. Thank you!
