My students need 5 sets of books they can read in their primary language and the books I am requesting will help them gain access to a variety of literature.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 1st grade students are excited about learning to read, however, the shortage of books in our classroom library limits their access to a variety of literature that would have the potential to inspire them to become lifelong readers and explorers of their world.
My students are a curios bunch that are excited about all the things they learn in books.
They are Spanish speaking, low income children in a largely Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago. It is a challenge to find a variety of Spanish literature that would provide them with ample opportunities to read. Furthermore, parents have expressed concern about going to their nearest library because of gang activity in the area. Providing these children with access to a variety of books in a safe, inviting atmosphere is the best way to allow them the opportunity to develop and foster a love of reading.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books my students can read in their primary language. Do you remember your favorite book growing up? Do you remember holding onto it all day long as I did? I remember wishing I could read the words on the page all by myself and I remember my excitement as I later learned to read. It is my dream to be able to put that great book in a child's hands. With your help and generosity, my first graders will have access to great titles that will spark their curiosity and imagination and foster a love of reading!
This project will provide children with the chance to get their hands on exciting and interesting books in their own language.
Children will be able to enjoy titles that were once only available in English. They will gain fond memories of their first reading experiences which would be made possible through your efforts and generosity.
