I teach a classroom of energetic and eager to learn first graders. Each day is new and exciting to them and they are ready to go every morning. They are quickly becoming readers and their enthusiasm for learning keeps me working hard to provide the best education possible for them.
I have a classroom of diverse learners with various abilities.
I want to create an environment that is welcoming and comfortable for them to learn, where I can meet all of their needs.
My Project
My first grade students need a comfortable, inviting space to learn how to read while in guided reading groups. Currently, we are sitting on the tile floor in a small group, while other students are reading independently at the carpet, are at their seats writing, or are completing word work. A horseshoe table and chairs is needed for our small group, guided reading instruction. This allows students to have their established space, off of the cold floor, where they can read, work on phonics, skills, and write with guidance from me.
The table and chairs will help me provide small group, differentiated instruction so I can better meet their individual needs.
It will also help provide some structure during times when students need to maintain their focus.
