My Students

My first grade students come from a low socioeconomic background. Most of them come from single parent homes where the parents are gone as they work long hours, resulting in many of my students not having educational home support. This often times means my students are coming to school exhausted and in need of a comfortable engaging environment where they feel safe and nurtured. Despite these difficulties, my students have hearts of gold. They are constantly looking for ways they can help each other, and are relentlessly happy. I am often amazed at the simple things that delight them so much. It is invigorating and refreshing watching them learn each and every day. I am so fortunate to be able to spend my days with them.

My Project

An easel would make a huge difference on a daily basis in our classroom. We don’t currently have space in the front of our classroom for everything that this multipurpose easel would do. It would allow the students to see the concepts we are covering up close. It would also allow the students to reach the white board and pocket chart to share their work. This is something many of them can’t do now as they are unable to reach high enough. Undoubtedly, the addition of this easel would enhance instruction and greatly benefit my students.
