I have 2 classes full of fun, loving, creative First Graders who LOVE Math! They are all unique and special in their own ways. Every morning I am greeted by the same sweet faces eager to take on a new day.
This year has been amazing!
We are implementing several new ideas in our classroom and my students are doing a wonderful job. Daily 5 has been a huge part of my students' success in math as well as designing student-centered stations that keep my Kiddos engaged and excited to learn!
My Project
Having a variety of valuable tools for my students allows them to explore numbers and develop a deeper understanding mathematically. It is imperative that my First Graders are able to be hands-on in their learning. First Grade is such a foundational year for my students. The mathematical understanding they develop with me will ensure they will be more successful in grades to come as well as in life. The angLegs I chose will be used for my kids to explore shapes. Manipulating different sizes, learning how shapes fit together and being able to form representations is such an important skill. I want my students to be able to break numbers apart and see how they fit together. Rekenreks are a great tool for us to use in a small group to further their understanding of how numbers fit together. My goal is to send my kids to Second Grade with confidence in knowing they have a true understanding of numbers and can explain their thinking.
