Ms. Helms from Charlotte NC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need class sets of 5 chapter books for their reading book club. These books will motivate my high readers to read more challenging materials.

My first graders are working towards becoming independent learners. They are working at different levels and need the materials and support to push them to their potential.
Our school is brand new and we are in need of materials.
My students do not have access to a school library and crave more books. My class is full of fun-loving clowns who love to laugh and learn. Their desire to grow is overwhelming and I want to push them to the next level.
My higher level reading group will now be challenged even more. They will use these books to create a first grade book club. The students will read a chapter each night and have to write about it in their reading journal. My students have gone through so many picture stories and are begging for chapter books. This will push them to identify new vocabulary and reading skills. They will also learn how to actively discuss what they read and how they feel. This is going to change how we do our guided reading groups and what we expect from our students.
Many of my students do not have a lot of access to books at home.
Several of the families can not afford to go out and buy a book for their child. This would allow my students to check out their book and read at home with a parent. This is also raising the level of my expectation for these students. I think they are ready and willing for the challenge.
