My students need a variety of text, and this is why I am reaching out to you. I respectfully request funding for a novel that I think will serve the students well. With all of the social media, phones, cameras, and videos (especially surfing the internet), I feel George Orwell's 1984 would be a great read. I am simply seeking copies, used or new, of this novel. I would appreciate any and all contributions that support my students. Thank you.
My Project
My project would be to create critical thinking skills and ideas that would stem from this novel that would apply to the student in today's world. We live in a world of constant and daily changes, and the internet and social media are of those that change the most frequent. The novel, 1984, would shed light on the choices the teens make when using social media and hopefully make them aware of their actions. The term, "big brother is watching you" from the novel would fit perfectly into a lesson about posting pictures and such on social media to the fact that everyone sees what you are doing. Also, who is watching you? The goal is to enhance critical thinking skills that align with the state standards.
