This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day, I come to work and see hundreds of kids walking from their homes from the community into school. Every day I see students walking from the bus stop because they have taken a two hour bus ride just to get to school. Every day, I realize how amazing the students I teach are.

There are three words that I can use to describe my students: intelligent, enduring, and inspiring.

Due to their low income and ethnic background, my students have low confidence in their performance; but I know better. I have seen them rise to the occasion and excel every time I have introduced a challenge.

My Project

Academic Decathlon is such an amazing opportunity for students to expand their thinking surrounding a specific topic; this coming year, the topic is the 1960's. In addition, students have a difficult time relating to Shakespearean works of literature; most collegiate literature programs require the skills to dissect plays and discuss.

Students are fortunate to have the opportunity to combine the coming year's topic of the 1960's to Shakespeare through "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" by Tom Stoppard.

With a book study that makes Shakespeare more relatable, students will not only gain the understanding of Shakespearean themes and symbols, but the skills necessary for college literature classes.
