Help me give my students headphones so they can hear multimedia audio while studying phonics, reading, watching math and science videos/songs, etc.
This project expired on April 18, 2020.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My third grade class for the 2019-2020 school year has 19 students. Our school is in an agricultural, rural community.
Every student has access to their own computer Chromebook at our school.
In third grade, we learn how to type multiple paragraph essays in response to reading several text sources. My students always love to see how we will use our computers each day. We are doing several computer-based projects like writing a narrative and creating digital illustrations to go with it.
Headphones are used mostly during independent practice while they listen to multimedia and interact with it through the computers. We started the year with only 3 working headphones for the whole class and that is still how many headphones we have for 19 students to use. Many of them have to have an open speaker that echos in our rooms with 20-25 feet tall ceilings.
During phonics practice, they need to hear the sounds of the letter blends clearly.
They also listen to math vidoes, tutoring clips and songs to help them learn math concepts and an open speaker can be very distracting. Some students have the audio read the story to them, and an open speaker can distract others. They will be using their headphones for science animal research later this year also.
