We are a school of +600 students, ECE-5th grade ranging from general education, gifted and talented, to students with autism. My fifth graders are hard working, quirky, and strive to excel at the tasks set before them. As we switch to an environment of a blended learning classroom, I know they will use the resources of Chromebooks to help them grow as readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians.
This environment will prepare them for the schooling, jobs, and the future that lies ahead of them.
I will have thirty amazing students next year in my homeroom class that will stay with me for core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, skills, and social studies.
My Project
How effective do you think a classroom can be when there is a piece of technology accessible to them at any given moment? When students are looking to personalize their own learning by challenging their skills through a reading quiz, watching Kahn Academy videos to strengthen their mathematical inquiries, or blogging about their writing on their own terms, the classroom just becomes 100 times better. Choice and creative problem solving are immediate benefits of such engaging tools, such as this Chromebook.
With guided inquiry and readily available technology, students can empower their own learning.
By building a 1:1 computer ratio, I can provide my students with the power they so desperately need in their own learning. A 1:1 Chromebook to student ratio will allow me to provide instruction that is individual and unique to each child. Whether it be working on fluency facts at his/her own pace, or allowing a child to extend their writing through publishing a blog, or providing ample opportunities for self directed research, my classroom will become even more rich with knowledge. Please help us in achieving the goal of 1:1 computer:student technology in my classroom.
