Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day despite heavy challenges at home and in their neighborhood. Many of them lack a support system and push themselves to come to school and learn. They make sure they show up. Once they come to school, they know that the doors are open for them to learn and grow.
I admire the strength within them that they do not even know they have.
Together, the students come together and learn how to work together through diversity and adversity.
My Project
Our school does not have an elementary PE teacher so who teachers PE? The classroom teacher does! The students are required to have 100 minutes of PE a week. These soccer balls, catch pads, jump ropes, and playground balls will replace the lost and broken equipment as well as give the students a chance to learn and use their motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, throwing, catching, and jumping.
Just because the students do not have a PE teacher, doesn't mean that their elementary years should be deprived of REAL sports and skills.
It is important to me that the students know how to cooperate, work in teams, and have good sportsmanship. These skills heavily carryover into the classroom and their daily lives. It also gives students who many have special athletic abilities to feel successful outside of the academic realm. Regular exercise is proven to improve the students' ability to focus and not give up. They can carry their practice makes perfect mentality to reading, writing, and math.
