Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an urban high school where there is a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. I have taught here for 17 years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had.
I strive to expose them to as many diversified artistic experiences as I can.
My Project
My students love creating in clay and are very productive. Throughout the year they are challenged with projects that teach them clay skills and techniques which inspire their own creativity. With many students enrolled in classes the clay goes fast.
The students need the necessary resources for ceramics and the security of knowing we have the supplies they need to express themselves creatively.
It is great to look around the room and see the many different ideas students expressed in their work. Whether students are working by hand or throwing on the wheel, there is always an abundance of creative spirit throughout the year.
