Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students enter our classroom every day ready to learn and eager to participate in whatever the day offers them. Regardless of what they may have dealt with minutes before they arrived, they blow me away on a daily basis with their resilience. They are the most compassionate, determined, and kind human beings regardless of the struggles they experience daily.
My students and I are located in Santa Rosa, CA.
In October, our community suffered great tragedy and loss due to the Northern CA Wildfires. Although none of my students were directly impacted by the fires, our school community has been impacted. Our students are extremely low income, and most come from families where they speak a different language at home. Due to the wildfire's impact on our community, we missed 3 weeks of academic instruction, which we cannot get back. This has affected the academic progress of our students greatly.
In our classroom, we strive to support each other and believe in one another with each individual's struggles and needs in mind. My students come from an economically disadvantaged community and over 90% are receiving free or reduced lunch. These struggles and hardships definitely affect them on a daily
My Project
My students and I are extremely fortunate. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, as well as endless generous donors, we are now going to soon have an entire class set of Chromebooks.
These Chromebooks are going to have impacts on my students in endless ways and will have a positive impact on their educational success now and in future.
They are not only going to give them the experiences they deserve with 21st-century resources, but they also will be able to access learning programs at their level at any time during the day. These learning programs are essential for their success in school since they are individually developed for each student's needs in both Language Arts and Mathematics.
This project will officially complete the class set of Chromebooks we have by licensing each device. This Google Education License is required in our district so that we can connect to the internet server which is safe, secured, and suitable for the different programs and websites we need to use. Another great reason the licenses are necessary is so that the devices can be serviced, if needed, by our district technology department. It is the last step towards having fully functioning devices in our 4th grade classroom where we are considered "one to one" with technology. This will be a huge accomplishment for these amazing students.
