Help me give my students a live butterfly kit for a hands-on memorable learning experience. (5 live caterpillars, caterpillar food, a 12 inch reusable pop-up butterfly habitat, water mister, butterfly feeder, and sugar water dropper.)
They hatched out of pre-kindergarten and entered our kindergarten classroom like newborn caterpillars... Some were shy, some were nervous, some were excited, and some, unsure exactly what to think. They spent about 140 days learning about literacy, numeracy, our society, responsibility, and courtesy in our safe and inviting school classroom. Then, Covid-19 turned our engaging learning environment upside down. For safety reasons, we could no longer attend school. Without knowing what will happen next, we stayed home in our chrysalises for two weeks and scheduled education digitally. After two weeks, it was determined, teaching and learning would transform and occur in homes for the remainder of the school year.
Can you please help me (figuratively and financially) continue to engage my eager kindergarten students, allowing them to observe a live butterfly cycle from home, and in turn, continue to develop their own beautiful wings to soar through the rest of their kindergarten school year?
Kindergartners love watching the butterfly life cycle each year. They get fascinated seeing live caterpillars spin chrysalises and eventually turn into butterflies. I am unable to do that at school this year. However, with your donation, I can deliver kits to all of my students' homes.
My Project
All students will receive their own butterfly kit. The company offers a guarantee that "3 out of every 5 caterpillars will grow into happy, adult butterflies." Once received, my students will need to READ the instructions (included with the kit) for taking care of the caterpillars and butterflies. They will watch and observe how caterpillars transform into butterflies and will WRITE about the transformation / metamorphosis each week. Once the caterpillars form chrysalises, my students will then transfer the chrysalises into the butterfly habitat. Then, they'll TAKE CARE OF THEM by feeding the butterflies, and when ready, set them free.
"Don't be afraid of change... It just might turn into something beautiful," said the butterfly.
With your donation, 22 students will learn and grow with this very special hands-on memorable experience full of literacy, responsibility, excitement, and pride.
