Dr. Seuss once said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." My students are in need of books so they can experience the love of reading at home and have the opportunity to go wherever their dreams may take them.
My students attend a Title-1 school in Atlanta, Georgia.
All of my students are ESOL (English as a second language), mostly Spanish speaking. This means that during the day at school the students are speaking English, but when they go home, they are speaking mostly Spanish with friends and family.
Many students are reading below grade level and therefore, receive a reading intervention by being served through the ESOL program.
My Project
Reading is the basis of all aspects of life. Students must be able to learn to enjoy reading. My students are in need of good fiction and nonfiction books so that they can develop the love of reading. By selecting this project, you will be helping expand each students' at home library with a high interest book. These books will be able to be enjoyed by the students' families, as well as siblings. The love of learning will be able to be shared for years to come.
This project is important because, I am hoping that it will motive them to read more and to gain a love for reading.
The school participates in the A.R. (Accelerated Reader...reading program). I plan to have the students read A.R. books from both the school library as well as the classroom library. When the students have read and passed 5 A.R. tests (from their independent reading level), they will be rewarded with a book of their own to take home and share with their families.
