My school is a Title I school in NW Houston with diverse students with 100% potential. My first grade students are enthusiastic and curious learners in reading, writing, and mathematics.
I want to empower visionary learning and promote the fourth literacy: computational thinking.
They deserve access and opportunities regardless of their economic situation. I want them to have a seat at the table and envision themselves as the next ____________ who invents or develops _______________. Will you help me build their capacity for success?
My Project
My first grade students are learning to break down problems into small, manageable steps. They enjoy looking for patterns and figuring out what's important and what isn't. When writing or giving step-by-step directions to solve problems, they frequently need to go back and revise their thinking to make the directions better. How to Code a Sandcastle will introduce my students to basic coding concepts such as sequences and loops. The Power Tiles Circuit Kit has interchangeable tiles that will promote exploration of light, sound, and motion as my first graders build 2D and 3D circuits. The Bee-Bots and SmartGurlz Siggy with Zara and Maria will provide opportunities to apply coding concepts both unplugged and with remote devices.
These materials will enhance the development of computational thinking for my first grade students.
Please help us explore these 21st century concepts.
