Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a self-contained kindergarten class of 7 students with Developmental Delays and/or Autism at a Title I school. Their needs are in multiple areas: pre-academics, social, behavior, communication, sensory, fine and gross motor. We celebrate all skills students learn as it may take them longer to gain a skill than other students. They need and require different methods and modes of teaching as well as reinforcement, more than your typical child needs.
My Kindergarten students are in a self-contained classroom due to their unique special needs in a Title I school.
My Project
My students learn best when provided with multiple ways of learning, visually, sensory/tactile, manipulatives, are just to a few to name. My kindergarten class is working towards mastering number identification, 1:1 correspondence, rote counting to 100, and hopefully addition.
These math activities will help my students build a strong set of foundational math skills.
The Magnetic Counting Rods will allow my students to not only make sets of each number, but visually see this is how much each numeral is. The Magnetic Math Activity Set will allow my students to be hands on with putting numerals in sequence, simple addition, shapes, and measurement. The Count and Link will give my students another hands on opportunity to show how much each numeral is by using links to create a set. Also, these activities, will help keep my students engaged, attentive, and participate with these fun, hands-on math activities.
All of these materials would help my students gain a strong set of foundational math skills that are needed as they learn other math skills I want to provide as much opportunities for my students to learn them as best as they can!
