Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The excitement and smiles I am greeted with by my preschool students each day is my reason for teaching. Teaching at a low income/high poverty school, many of my students are faced with unimaginable challenges on a daily basis. Despite these hardships, they arrive to school eager to learn and to share their knowledge and stories with myself and other children. I know that for many of these boys and girls, the short time they spend at school with me is the most structured and consistent part of their day.
My students have taken their first steps into their public school education.
Each day they come in ready to explore this new world with such enthusiasm and curiosity. My hope as their teacher is to instill a love for learning that will carry them through their educational career.
My Project
As a teacher of an inclusive preschool program, I work with children ages 3 to 5 with varying abilities. Each day students take part in learning centers that focus on building Kindergarten readiness skills. The materials included in this project will help build a strong collection of math centers that can be accessed by children at their individual learning level.
With so many diverse learners, it is imperative to have the proper math materials to meet the needs of each and every child.
The counting car manipulatives and Counting Links will be great for students who are developing number sense and one to one correspondence. The Shape Center will be used to match and identify shapes, as well as describing and comparing attributes. The Sift and Find Number Shells will be used to help students develop number identification skills through hands on sensory learning. These materials would be a great addition to my students' everyday learning!
