Si Se Puede! Yes You Can! Impact the Classroom with Culture. I teach Spanish 3 Regular and Spanish 3 Pre-AP. Most of my students are sophomores and juniors. My school is a low income school with very little money in our department budget to spend on impacting resources such as 45 classroom sets of books and a DVD movie. We are a high need community for essential teaching resources. Please help make it happen!

It's very enlightening to see my students grasp culture and experience it in their own Spanish classroom. I want to enrich my classroom and expose them to so many different aspects of culture. So much exists in just their own classmates and it's sad they don't even know about it. We come from all walks of life and if they could see that through literature and a impacting movie along with their own peers family stories I could enrich them and let them see life in an astonishing way.

I would like to teach them culture and different backgrounds with the House on Mango Street and the movie "El Norte." Sandra Cisneros does a wonderful job of showing a portrayal of a culture and a young Latina girl and their way of life in "The House on Mango Street". El Norte is an Oscar nominated film that shows the struggles of two young teenagers and their journey to the United States. Both of these would be wonderful resources in my classroom that would make a impact on anyone that was exposed to them. They truly are inspiring and essential cultural teaching material.

I want to teach not only Spanish, culture, heritage, but the appreciation of others and differences in every day life. Please let me accomplish this by funding these 45 classroom set books that many students would use for several years ,and a movie that would show the life of teenagers like them in a new light. I so desire to teach them about different cultures and have the value of learning in a classroom and learning from one another.
