My students need a magnetic whiteboard in the front of their classroom and a new "teacher chair" not only for myself, but I allow my students to sit there too at times.
A "non-white" board? Yuck! Right now my classroom has a whiteboard that isn't white, unless I scrub it with special cleaner. They also aren't magnetic, which isn't useful at all. Finally, my teacher chair has scratches, pieces falling off, AND screeches whenever you move in it!
I have three classes of about twenty five students.
They are in sixth grade and attend an elementary school where they are the top students of the school.
I love to use my boards, but it's such a hassle at times. They students also enjoy cleaning and using it too, but find it annoying that they can't use magnets on them or when they try to erase, the outlines of the words are still there. I go through a lot of special cleaner just to keep it neat and useful for them.
Finally, my chair is falling apart and I like to let my students sit at my desk from time to time for good behavior and now its quite embarrassing with the shape its in. Also, even the most subtle movement makes the chair screech and holler. That's tough when the kids are watching videos, doing homework, or taking a test.
My Project
With my students gaining magnetic whiteboards for the classroom they will be allowed to be fully engaged with writing and being able to pin things up when needed. They love to write on the boards and show pride in their work. Allowing them to become social is very important at this age level for future confidence.
With the addition of a new chair the students will want to win the award to sit at my desk and they will also gain the silence they deserve during independent quiet times the classroom calls for at times.
I want my students to be able to fully learn and be fully engaged at all times no matter what it takes!
My students can only benefit from one of the most useful tools in a classroom: a magnetic fully functioning whiteboard.
