This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach American History at an urban middle school in DC. My students are eager to learn but have difficulty and/or no motivation to read text(s) at length.
I would love to show students videos of various aspects of history so they can experience visually as well as audibly America's exciting, and sometimes controversial past. The goal of the "Seeing History is Believing" History Project is to give students the knowledge of the past with the tools of the present to inspire them to affect change in the future.
I brought in a VHS/DVD player from home. However, I need videos that address appropriate themes and events related to American history. The topics I am required to cover are broad and the various topics in history greatly exceed the contents in my personal collection.
I teach 100 students, all eighth graders. My students really respond to video, as part of instruction. They are especially excited when I teach using videos. My desire is to teach American History in the most effective, impactful manner. Please give me the resources I need to keep my kids excited about learning history!
