Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a second-year third grade teacher at Amos Elementary in NW Washington, DC. It is safe to say I am looking forward to utilizing all that I have learned during my first year to make this second year of teaching even more successful for my students. This is a follow-up to my earlier proposal entitled "Stepping out on the right foot!". I have found some additional resources which will assure the success of my students. These items extend past the traditional supplies in my other proposal and will really solidify my classroom as the home away from home that it needs to be. I have found some great storage seat covers that offer storage space for each student to store their own supplies and keep folders and resources handy. Because I do not have desks, this will help allow students a feeling of personal ownership and it will also limit the downtime in my classroom spent on gathering supplies and leave more room for learning. I am also requesting three bean bag chairs to help make my library a comfy place to read and get lost in a book. I have also added some extra math manipulatives--a fraction bar kit--which can make what seems to challenge all third graders, fractions, a fun learning event! Every student deserves a classroom that is functional and supportive of high learning expectations. Please help me make that a reality for my students!
