Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Dr. Seuss is one of the most beloved authors for children. Our class needs Dr. Seuss books and seat cushions to help celebrate his birthday by doing our favorite thing- READING!

My students attend a low-income, Title I school outside of Washington D.C.

Most of the students in my class are English as a second language learners and face many challenges academically. Many come to school speaking no English and are unable to receive assistance with schoolwork at home. Despite cultural barriers, ALL of my students have a thirst for knowledge. The love to learn, read, and interact with each other.

My Project

Every March, my class participates in Read Across America Day to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. However, we have a very limited selection of books written by Dr. Seuss! This project is requesting many titles of Dr. Seuss books to help expand my student's concept of this author. Since we will be spending the entire day reading, we are also requesting some seat cushions. The more relaxed my students are while they read, the longer they want to read for and the more they enjoy it.

While these materials will be used for Read Across America Day, they will be beneficial to my students the whole year.

Exposing them to a wide variety of books and teaching them to truly enjoy reading is one of the most important things we do in school. It's something that stays with them, always.
