My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you walked into your middle school and tried to open your locker? Did you worry all summer that you would not be able to open it, making you late to class or giving others cause to make fun of you? This is reality for many students.

My students are hard working and bright young people with their whole lives ahead of them.

I want to send them to middle school with confidence and the tools they need to succeed. They will face many challenges in middle school and throughout their lifetime, but we can make a difference in their lives today!

My Project

As a 5th grade teacher, I would like to have a set of combination locks for students to practice with during the final quarter of each school year. Learning to open a lock successfully boosts a student's self esteem and relieves fears associated with middle school. In addition, it helps with skills such as hand/eye coordination, following directions and developing patience. It teaches students to not give up!

I believe this project can make a difference in the lives of my students.

I remember what it was like struggling to open my locker, asking for help, being laughed at and finally being late for class. Every year I have students share with me their fears about middle school, and opening their locker is always one of their biggest concerns. By providing these combination locks, my students can go to their first day of middle school with confidence.
