Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 6th grade teacher in one tough neighborhood! Although our school is located in an area notorious for high rates of poverty and crime, my students love learning and desire to bridge an achievement gap of which they are very aware.
One of my goals is to ensure that my students develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
However, my school only provides us with limited supplies and resources. It leaves us teachers trying to find out ways to give our students what they need. What we are needing right now are materials for our students to use during our history lessons.
My Project
Studies show that when students are exposed to the content areas, such as social studies and science, they score higher on state exams. In efforts to give my students a great social studies experience, I am in need of various materials to use with my social studies lessons. If we had world maps to display in the class, as well as personal maps, my students will be able to visualize and point out the the Nile River, Ancient Mesopotamia, and the territories of Alexander the Great! The books in this proposal will provide them with much needed home practice regarding the same civilizations. I am requesting 4 world maps and 4 books to help my students learn social studies.
With your help, my students could have access to much needed resources and have the opportunity to practice important social studies skills that will help raise test scores!
Please help to continue the joy of learning in our classroom!
