it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at a failing school in New York, NY. My class is a very multicultural group of beginning-level English Language Learners. Most of my students are from: Africa (Mali, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, and Guinea), South America, and the Caribbean. What my ESL students may not have in money or resources, they more than make up for it with their desire to learn and succeed in life.
As a teacher, I work in two classrooms with five different teachers and it is really challenging to prepare my lessons for my students with so many teachers using the rooms. Usually, I don't have access to the classroom to write my lessons before class starts and once class starts it is difficult to have to spend a few minutes at the beginning of class writing the lesson on the board. For effective classroom management, it is really important that the lesson be written before the students come into the room so that they can get right to work and not waste any time waiting for me to write it out during class time. Furthermore, oftentimes the other teachers need to leave their lesson on the board and I have to then write mine on paper for the students, which is a huge inconvenience to both me and the students.
I would be so grateful to have this easel and shelf so that I can prepare my lessons for my students and have them ready for them once they come to class. This would make such a difference for me as a teacher because I wouldn't have to worry about erasing another teacher's work or interrupting another class to write my lesson early. I could easily take the easel between the two rooms that I work in and it would easily carry my classroom supplies and lesson below. This easel would also be great for students to write on during our lessons and share-outs and encourage them to take leadership roles in the classroom by coming to the board to write whatever maybe required during the lesson.
