My students need classroom chalk, hooks, decorations, and more to start the school year off on the right foot, no matter where they live, they deserve the opportunity to become champions!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My students live in a high needs community in FL.
As a member of Teach For America, I truly believe that each and everyone of these students has not only the privilege, but the right to the opportunities of a great education. Through poverty, homelessness, hunger, abuse, and neglect, these students struggle day in and day out to come to school, and hopefully get one of the free lunches the school provides. These students have so little, and with the times, they are getting even less. Regardless, these students are smart, brave, encouraging, transformational, loving, and genuine; and they deserve the opportunity to start off on the right foot.
My Project
The resources requested are the minimum essentials to have a successful year transforming my students lives. With the way the economy is, and with the drastic budget cuts throughout the district, even the minimal supplies aren't provided or, if they are provided, they are insufficient. Garbage bags, and bins are hard to come by, and paper, chalk, or other writing utensils are of extreme limited supply. Decorations for the room either need to be hand made, or bought out of teacher's own pockets, otherwise the students will be staring at white walls all year. Considering the socioeconomic area that these students live in, it is hard to ask for more supplies than what they would minimally bring. These resources are crucial to start the year off right, and to ensure that the student's achievement will be the highest it could possibly be.
Quite simply, my students have very little, but it really means nothing to them.
They strive, with the support of the fantastic administration and faculty, to get better and better every single day, regardless of any situation. These supplies will greatly help them start strong, but, rest assured, they will be put to good use and will always... ALWAYS... will be appreciated. Thank you!
