My students need 25 subscriptions each to Time for Kids and Weekly Reader magazines for high interest reading materials to keep reluctant or easily distracted readers focused on flexing their reading muscles!

Marc says, "I'm bored" about 5 times a day but refuses to even crack the books I offer. Other students are interested in sports related materials, Justin Bieber information, or anything with baby animals ONLY. We have got to get some variety into their reading diet!
We are Imagine!
We are a part of the charter school system in Ohio. These children are over 90% minority and over 90% poverty level. Our school is filled with dedicated teachers who give their best to ensure that students show MORE than a years with of academic growth each year. This is a challenge since most students enter our school at least a grade level behind or more in learning. This year our school showed tremendous academic growth and was able to meet our goals for the number of children passing the Ohio Achievement Assessment.
I am asking for Weekly Readers with a Science focus and Time for Kids so that my reluctant readers have a variety of materials to choose from and also materials to take home. I have been focusing on building a library of books but these magazines offer an opportunity for students to keep up on current events.
When I ask students to read 20 minutes a night, they often respond that they don't have reading materials at home.
This project serves the dual purpose of offering high interest reading materials at school and the opportunity for children to take materials home! I believe that these materials will inspire young readers.
