Walt Disney once said "Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language." Disney created magnificent works based on images. With your help, we take this into the classroom.
My students are a fantastic bunch of 13-14 year old kids attending a public junior high school in Arizona.
While some have the advantages of computers and digital technology at home, most do not. Since we do not have the resources, I have been allowing them to use my personal camera to create videos and to illustrate their work. They are anxious to learn and to create, but options are limited when there is only one camera available for 150 students, and 30 students clamoring to use it in each class.
My Project
These cameras would provide a huge opportunity for my students and the entire school community. The cameras we are requesting take both still and video images. With these cameras, we will be able to bring our skits and screenplays to life. We will be able to create photo journalism pieces, and make public service announcements for our internal school TV. We will also use the cameras to enhance literature publications for our entire school and parent community.
Having digital cameras is so important because projects with images inspire students beyond the limitations of paper and pencil.
Cameras expand opportunities for publication of student work beyond the refrigerator door. Students feel like their work has greater impact when they see it shared in a school forum. Parents also appreciate the efforts made by their kids when they see the work presented. It is my greatest wish to see my kids able to bring their ideas to life using these cameras.
