First Graders Need Paper and Pencils to Learn to Write

My Students

Teaching 22 eager students to love writing is a challenge in itself. Luckily, I have a trick in my bag with the right paper.

I teach first graders in an urban public school.

Our school has a diverse population. From racial to economic to family diversity. We are also an inclusive school. Each class has students with special needs. We teach tolerance and acceptance at our school.

My Project

I have found a special writing paper that helps children learn to print while telling a story. The paper has lines that have a blue "sky" and green "grass". The red "fence" is in the middle. I tell the children to 'start at the sky and go down to the ground' This helps them learn the basics of forming letters. There is also a picture space so the children can draw about the story they are going to write. I also need beginner pencils with and without erasers and some eraser tips.

With budget cuts getting worse every year I reach out to people who care.
