My students need a place where they can go to read, relax, collaborate, and reflect; this area is much needed by our science classes to study systems and life science. My students need a stream kit, koi and rock-shaped outdoor speakers.
Most of us remember the classic school buildings full of color, student work hung everywhere, and friendly faces making it feel like a warm and welcoming second home. While staff is warm and friendly, we lack that space for students to go where they can reflect, study, and feel comfortable.
Our students are truly amazing!
With the goal of being a project-based, inquiry-based school, our students grow into multi-faceted individuals who are able to problem solve, work together, and face the real challenges of the world. These students have chosen to come to our school to have that small school, family environment where they can grow in a safe, yet challenging place.
Our school provides unparalleled technology but is missing the yin of our yang, so to speak! When the students need a place to reflect, read, and collaborate, they are still confined to the computer lab or lunch area. Our students would like a place outside where they can accomplish these things. Currently, our outdoor areas are desert, a blank slate calling for nature's beauty. A zen garden area would provide a quiet space for them to reenergize in order to accomplish their goals. This space could also be utilized by our science classes for investigation and upkeep of the garden and water feature area.
My Project
The stream and pond facet of the project provides that peaceful environment they are seeking. This area would also serve science investigations into water, life science, and systems as a whole. We plan to supplement this project with appropriate plants, trees, flowers, rocks, and benches to complete the vision. This area would serve the students as an escape but also be their responsibility to upkeep. The science applications are without limits!
This project is so important to our students.
They work extremely hard, applying and dedicating themselves in order to have a successful future. This garden area would be the type of place they need to return to the world and walk away from the computer screens. This project also teaches them the importance of self health, knowing when they need to destress, an important skill us adults often ignore until it is too late. Please help our students become well-rounded citizens of the future!
