My students need various moveable center activities, such as a Reading Response Station and a Fluency Station, where they can respond to literature in writing, improve their fluency skills, and become independent learners.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Every child can learn" is my motto. However, they all learn in different ways. Some need special individual attention and often times I have a group of students who all face the same challenges. They need to become active readers who respond to literature in authentic ways.
My students attend a school in a high poverty area in which parents are often not available to help their child at home with their school work.
Thus, I want to maximize their learning while they are in my classroom. Most of them can be motivated with just the right book and just the right activity. They are lively and have needs that extend beyond learning. They crave personalized attention from teachers who are knowledgeable about them as students and as young adults. They make it a pleasure to come to work everyday.
My Project
With the materials I have selected, I will be able to make independent learners of my students because they are "center" activities which are self-explanatory. Thus, they will be engaged in meaningful activities while I can focus on students that require more specialized intervention. They will be able to improve their fluency and students who read better are usually the students who will read more. These centers will also allow me to have a variety of authentic activities that I can use with my English Language Learners (ELLs). They need plenty of visuals and if I receive these materials, I can spend less time looking for valuable, enriching activities and more time teaching and guiding my students' learning.
My students need to be engaged in the activities they are doing and the materials I have chosen are all student friendly. Gone are the days of passive reading and answering the questions at the end of a story and moving on. Activities need to go beyond the text these days.
If you support my project, you will be affecting the lives of my students for years to come because the items I have chosen are durable materials that will last and that include materials that are rich and research based.
I am currently attending classes to receive a Master's in Reading and I have chosen the materials carefully.
