Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a sixth grade teacher at the Foshay Learning center in Watts, Los Angeles. I discuss with my students ways that they can contribute to their community, and reach out to other people. I have various Power Point presentations that I want to show my students of humanitarian work that I have done in Mexico, working with orphans and the elderly. I believe these Power Point presentations would bring the idea of "giving to the community" more meaning to the students. My students, being English Language Learners, comprehend material much better when they can see visuals of what I am talking about. My school cannot provide a projector for my classroom, because there have been too many budget cuts in Los Angeles Unified School District. However, if someone could help fund a Projector for my classroom, I would truly appreciate it. I want my students to be able to see pictures of people helping and serving others. I want my students to be inspired so they will go into their community and do the same thing. This will also allow the students to have healthy, safe, productive extracurricular activity options, instead of the all-to-often gang action and lifestyle that plagues the life of so many of the youth at my school.
