This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Can we do board work now?", this question is all too familiar in all my classes. My students really enjoy working out math problems on the board during board work time. Almost everything about this work setting contributes positively to my students learning and achievement in mathematics.

Most of my students are inner city kids.

They like to spend additional time practicing math problems in school because of the conducive atmosphere. Having sufficient boards will really aid me in avoiding congestion when dealing with these amazing students.

My Project

Currently two of my classes do not have sufficient board space to enjoy the rewards of engaging in board practice. As a result some students have to miss out on valuable learning experiences by working on their own. Having an additional board will make it possible for everyone to enjoy the process of working in board teams collaboratively, while making sense of mathematics. Due to economic hardships some students cannot afford markers and I often have to provide them with one. Since these markers are so costly, this project will really aid me in assisting students who cannot afford to purchase markers on a regular basis.

The deeper level of mathematical understanding occurs when students can discuss concepts with peers or teach one another.

Having sufficient board real estate will ensure that all my kids will have equal access to a deeper level of mathematical understanding.
