Creation Generates Motivation! Materials We Can Use are Key
My students need learning centers and games that are engaging, multilevel, and durable. Examples are Think-Tac-Toe Multilevel Activity Menus, Help-Yourself Multilevel Math Centers, and a Reading Comprehension Games Library.
When we USE quality, we THINK quality! That is exactly my goal for my class. Our building is falling apart, but I strive to build and construct knowledge in wonderful young minds!
My students are thirsty for information and activities.
They are 7 and 8 year old children who ask questions, wonder, explore, discuss, and yes, argue their viewpoints. Our school is a neighborhood school that literally hasn't changed since the day it was built! The students want to "play" and learn, but our materials are outdated and pieces are missing, so understandably, they are less excited. My hope is to rejuvenate them with inspiring new materials!
My Project
With these materials I am requesting, we will be able to engage in meaningful and FUN activities where reading will be not a solitary experience, but a group performance. Math will not be viewed with "the right answer", but "explain your method of thinking". Teaching with the process in mind, not just the final product. These learning centers are independent and engaging enough, that the students will WANT to figure out the synonym for wave. Students will have the freedom to discuss and help one another. And research shows that when one student teaches another, the highest form of learning has taken place. Furthermore, with the students working and succeeding on their own, behavior issues decline. All of this frees me, the teacher to work one on one with individuals who need extra explanations or remediation. This classroom will produce bright, curious, and wondrous children who look forward to school.
