We are preparing for a technological future! And our county provides many resources that can be accessed online. We are a big school, however, and we share a computer lab with over 50 other teachers and over 900 students! Wouldn't it be great if we could obtain a few classroom computers!?
We are in the eight largest school district in the nation serving over 207,548 students in 250 schools.
Our own elementary school serves over 900 students with a faculty of over 60 teachers. We are also a MET (Measuring Effective Teachers) school for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Empowering Effective Teachers initiative. Four of the eight teachers on our Fourth grade team are MET teachers. We are committed to preparing our students for jobs that haven't even been created yet. Technology will be a great part of that. Knowing this, we want to have the opportunity to involve students with computers whenever it is feasible. With one computer lab to share at our school, that time is limited. However, the teachers on our grade level are attempting to bring in notebook laptops...one at a time to build a set to for students to share. Great accomplishments can be made one step at a time! We appreciate all efforts to help us realize our goal.
My Project
Imagine a classroom where students have access to online resources at their desk! Where they can keyboard, compose, practice math computation, access videos and photographs of places all around the globe. Imagine students being able to experience differentiated work set specifically for them and administered at their own pace. These are the benefits of computers in the classroom. The possibilities are limitless and as teachers, we want to give these opportunities to our students.
One computer at a time, each one makes a difference and gives students a chance to access the resources that our district and school work so hard to provide.
