My students need real-life, hands-on science materials, such as worm habitats and prepared slides, to explore and view the world from different perspectives.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help my students see what cannot be seen, enable them to peek into nature as they experience life science from different perspectives.
The elementary students of this K-12 magnet school are diverse in every way -- culturally, socially, economically and emotionally -- but they share one commonality, they enjoy exploring and learning about the workings of the world.
Our students learn hand-on with the completion of projects and investigations. However, due to budget cuts, it is difficult to fund these projects. These students endure 45 minute bus rides from all over San Diego in order to gain a unique educational experience, which can be achieved given the proper tools.
My Project
Children are naturally curious beings, uninhibited and eager to learn -- from chasing lizards to following a line of ants to observe them hard at work. Equally important to their inquisitive nature, children need guidance and explanation of how and why things work around them. Help in funding this project means that kindergrtners will be able to observe earthworms in its habitat; first and second graders will discover the wonderful world of insects -- identifying their three body parts with actual specimens. Third and fourth graders will explore how magnets work, while the fifth graders will be able to locate and identify the functions of the human body. And finally, many of our grades will be able to learn the investigative skills of using a microscope with prepared slides.
With this project, the ENTIRE elementary student body of this school will benefit from your donation.
The students will be exposed to the displays, based on each grade levels standards, as they rotate through the science room. Through scaffolding, students will build interest in future grade curriculum as well as recalling learned information from past grade levels.
