Students with Autism struggle with verbal communication. They have a very hard time expressing their needs and wants in words, and art can help them find their voices!
My students are four elementary aged boys who place on the Autism Spectrum.
Some are able to attend inclusion classes in general education environments, others are completely non-verbal and require constant special education support. They are all beautiful, happy, diverse little boys who need a large variety of experiences in the classroom in order to support their very different needs.
Our school is an ethnically and economically diverse school in the state of Louisiana and doesn't have very much discretionary funding. My students need so much, but the school is able to provide so little. Students with Autism benefit TREMENDOUSLY from art integrated education, but it obviously takes tons of supplies and materials to pull this off.
My Project
I have requested materials that will provide my students with opportunities to express themselves through painting, sculpting and other classroom arts activities. These items, such as paint, brushes, craft supplies, dough and even googly eyes will open up worlds of expression for my four little boys. Creating an effective classroom for my students will not be possible without your help!
Hands-on art is absolutely vital to treating students with Autism!
By donating to this project you will be helping four beautiful little boys to find their own voices and communicate their needs and learning in a way that would not have been otherwise possible!!
