My Students

The sound is bouncing everywhere! This used to be the gymnasium, but now it's home to two classes. It's very hard to concentrate or even hear each other with our 17ft. cathedral ceilings and hardwood floor.

The "old gym" is now the Gifted and Talented resource room for grades 1-8 in an urban public school.

Our kids are innovators and artists, engineers, and poets. They love to tackle new problems and get very boisterous during their enrichment classes. Unfortunately, there are usually two different classes going on at once.

My Project

We are requesting multiple sets of carpeted pattern block tiles and double-sided adhesive. In our brainstorming potential solutions for the acoustic problems, we determined that the wall surfaces were causing an echo. The kids will use their knowledge of geometric properties and tessellations to design brightly colored, aesthetically pleasing sound dampers. This will be the first project in a major collaborative effort between our elementary and middle school students.

This first project will give the students a great jumping-off point and show them that they really can work together to make an impact and cause lasting changes in their environment.
