This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students need reference materials for the newly created media center so that they may access information quickly.
97% of our students are low-income, and 20% of our students have identified special needs.
Literacy skills are low, and the media center was created to improve literacy and research skills. We are in an urban area of Minnesota, where the achievement gap is great. We serve principally African-American and Latino students.
My Project
We shall be able to do research projects and create slide shows about research conducted using the encyclopedia set. Students shall learn to ask questions about their topic, research and evaluate information sources, and summarize their learning using class presentations.
The ability to access, use, and evaluate information is critically important for the 21st century learner.
Students shall be using and applying research strategies that shall enable them to become lifelong learners.
