Ever feel like the world around you is closing in on you and you need some stress relief. Every day my students battle with stress and emotional disabilities that keep them from attending school and their classes.
My students are part of an ICAN (Intensive Center for Affective Needs) program in Colorado.
Many of the students on my caseload have Emotional or Behavioral Disorders. They all in some way have nervous energy that needs to be channeled or directed in some way. This undirected energy can contribute to behavioral disruptions in their classrooms leading to discipline problems keeping them from their learning. My students attend a middle school for grades 6-8 and utilize my classroom for academic support, social skills training, and study skills practice.
My Project
In Yoga Mats for Honor Rolls students will gain knowledge of stress reduction giving both staff and students strategies to use to lower stress. In doing this students will feel more comfortable and ready to face the stress created within the school environment leading to greater access of the general curriculum. My students will learn that using yoga and other mindfulness techniques can help them get through their day with less stress. More importantly students will be able to use these techniques more regularly when feeling stressed by certain classes or situation both at school and in the community. This will drastically improve my students quality of life which should also help in their academic career at school. By having a well balanced approach to their education my students can overcome their emotional and behavioral disabilities to rise to their educational potential.
This project will help our students and staff succeed by making our ICAN classroom successful both emotionally and academically.
In helping us we can help reduce our stress and provide and environment in which we can all become more educated about ourselves and how we interact and work within our environments.
