Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach eighth grade physical science at a low-income middle school in Koreatown (LA). Ninety-eight percent of the student body qualifies for the free lunch program, and the majority of them are ELLs (English Language Learners). I would really like to provide my students with a digital camera for two reasons: first, to help build a team atmosphere in the classroom (facilitated by showing slide shows/posting photos in the classroom of students working together on projects and growing in their knowledge alongside one another); second, to help them document results of various projects and experiments throughout the year. I required my students to document the results of their science fair projects this past year, and shelled out a lot of money for disposable cameras as a result. I believe a digital camera will be beneficial to my classroom for two reasons. First, taking and posting pictures of them involved in learning will serve to increase the positive atmosphere in my classroom. Second, I would like to teach my students the importance of documenting their results.
