My students need a tabletop audio pod and 13 audio books to improve reading fluency and comprehension.
This project expired on February 4, 2011.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Help open a world of fantasy, poetry, adventure and mystery. You can help my students experience all of these adventures through literature. However, many of my students have limited reading skills and need audio books to enjoy these wonderful books.
My 25 Third Grade students are highly motivated and love learning.
They live in a poor urban area and come from low income households, but they enjoy coming to school everyday. The majority of the students come from non-English speaking homes and come to school with a limited vocabulary and poor reading skills. Unfortunately, many of their parents are unable to read with them at home and it is important we provide them lots of literacy opportunities at school.
Last year, we were able to purchase a listening center to allow my students to use audio books. Audio books paired with the actual text helps improve reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. However, we have no audio books that will help foster a love of literature. With the audio books, my students can access grade level material, which they could not read on their own. Please help my students visit The Chocolate Factory with Charlie, meet that pest Ramona, try to guess what Fudge will do next, and laugh at the stories from Wayside Elementary. There are so many fantastic children books my students hope to enjoy. Please help!
Having confident readers who love literature is my goal for every child who walks into my Third Grade classroom.
Limited English or having a Learning Disability should not stop children from enjoying many great books. It is a sad fact that children from low income households come to school with less vocabulary and often under perform in Reading. I want to help foster a lifelong love of reading in my students, and with your help we can change their future!
