My Students

Do you watch CSI Miami and wonder how did they do that? My student's wonder the same thing many watch the shows and dream of becoming a Forensics Scientist. CSI: Community Science Investigations will allow our student to see and work like a Forensics Scientist.

My students are a group of hard working high school students located in northeastern Texas.

We are a rural 3A school going through growing pains. The farming area is slowly being transformed into housing additions. This is producing a changing culture within the school and community. Most of these students are starting to developing their place in society. They are wanting to be like the television and movie stars they see. They are wanting to become the Gil Grissom's and the Kay Scarpetta's of the world.

My Project

I am requesting the funds for two stereo-microscopes. This will allow my students to engage in mock crime scenes where they will have to compare and investigate hair, fibers, handwriting, and bullet casings to determine the evidence and locate the perpetrator. The students will learn that fibers look different on the microscopic level and determine the type of fiber that has been discovered. They will also be able to examine hair to determine if it fell out natural or was pulled out. Handwriting analysis will determine any differences in the writing techniques. While bullet casing will allow the students to see that different guns leave very different firing pin impressions which can be matched up. These resources will allow my students to gather evidence and determine the perpetrator while learning about Crime Scene Investigators and the art of Forensic Science.

The donation of stereo-microscopes will allow my student to develop an understanding of nature of Forensics Science.

It will give them the understanding that it is the combination of their previous classes. Their biology class information for hair and fiber samples. Their physics class information on forces and trajectories for bullets. Their chemistry class for fiber and hair analysis. All their previous science classes were working up to Forensics.
