My students need an LCD projector and speakers to help them to experience history interactively.

Most people will tell you they remember history as a dry, boring subject. I want my students to have a different experience by living history, by viewing it as the vivid, colorful, loud, and all around exciting story it really is.
I teach high school history in a poverty and violence stricken urban neighborhood.
Many of my students deal with unstable home lives, poor nutrition, and the deaths of loved ones to gun violence. And yet, they come to school every day, willing and even excited to learn, ready to make the best of everything and to meet their academic challenges. My students are vibrant people: they are creative and extremely active, so having the tools for an active and creative learning experience is essential.
Having multimedia capabilities in my history classroom is essential in working with such active, vibrant students. Not only will they experience the sights and sounds of history through multimedia presentations and interactive websites, but they will also create projects of their own that will allow them to further interact with history, while learning valuable real world technology skills at the same time. Using computers already available in the school, they can create multimedia presentations of their own to show to the class. By teaching each other, they will become experts in much greater depth than they can as passive learners; by creating their own montage of historic photos and music, images and sounds, they will become immersed in history at a whole new level.
By donating to a multimedia projector and speakers for my room, you will give my students one more tool they need for success.
If my students can have the opportunity to experience history and share their interpretations of it creatively, they will be better equipped with the knowledge base and critical thinking skills required for college, the presentation and technology skills needed for successful careers, and hopefully even a love of learning to last a lifetime.
