My Students

We live in a world governed by technology. Wii, Nintendo, Facebook, and iPods (to just name a few) have all become a regular part of my students' lives. To keep up with the ever changing world of technology, I would like to have my students make movies to extend their learning.

My students will be in fourth grade as of August 25, 2010.

I was their third grade teacher and I am following them to fourth grade. I've spent most of the summer planning activities for our upcoming school year. I have students who are smart and innovative. They never cease to amaze me with their thinking. I can hardly wait to see how they've changed over the summer. I'm very excited to surprise them with new and exciting ways to motivate them to want to learn more, such as making movies. Our school is a Title 1 school which means most of my students live in high poverty. I want to expose them to as many new educational opportunities as possible in order to show them that living in poverty doesn't mean that you can't have the doors opened to new ideas.

My Project

The Pinnacle Studio 14 software I have requested will allow us to edit our movies and make them appear as if they were created right in Hollywood! It will allow us to expand the creativity of our movies. It will really make them stand out and will allow my students to create a product of which they can be proud. As I stated earlier, making movies in fourth grade will allow my students to extend their learning in a variety of areas. They will write scripts, expand their knowledge of literature, learn how to record with a digital camera, make movie sets, create costumes, research science, math, and social studies information, and use their imagination. They will show their leadership potential as they direct each other through the process of making our movies. They will learn how to work as a team and how to make independent decisions. With this software, my students will be able to really shine by creating something for which they can be proud.

I am not the teacher that believes that students can learn everything they need to know from a textbook.

They need the opportunity to apply new information that they learn. They need to use the arts in the regular classroom. They need to reach beyond the walls of our school and show others their range of creativity. I hope to help them do this by making movies with them this year. Please help me make this project possible for my students.
