My students need 150 composition notebooks so they can improve their writing skills as they learn about current global events.

My Students

Most of my students cannot locate Asia on a world map, but you have the power to help change that.

7th graders in my school are among some of the most impoverished in Tennessee.

After surviving the horrific flooding of last year, many of my students struggle to obtain the necessary supplies for school. Our school is certainly under-resourced, and our students are under pressure--both at home and at school.

My Project

The journals I am requesting for my students will provide them with a new perspective--one that breaks through the walls of the school and their home-lives. Every day, students will be reading a current event from a news agency like CNN.com or an international news group like BBC. After reading, they will reflect on the article in these journals. By providing the journals-- you are literally giving over 100 students a ticket out of their normal lives and an ability to visualize and understand other cultures. Learning current events on a daily basis will allow my students to connect what we learn in class to what is happening in the world.

Imagine a world where all students received in school was intensive reading and math instruction.

That is what students in my school face. Please provide these journals so my students can begin to learn about the world outside of their small school and neighborhoods.
