Books are to be cherished and savored! That's what I teach my students and one way they do that is by learning how to appropriately select, store and care for their book selections. Our current book bins are falling apart and some even have jagged edges on them and must be thrown away.
Our school is located in a lower income area of Missouri where a large percentage of our children are on free or reduced meal plans.
Our Primary Center, grades 1-2, focuses on teaching children to be proud of their successes and creates opportunities for that through a strong curriculum and high expectations. Our average class size is 20 and like many teachers across the nation, we spend a great deal of our personal income on filling our classrooms with books and materials that will enhance their educational experience.
The students in my classroom are eager to read books across many genres and are very lucky to be able to travel to our wonderful media center to select books as they need. In addition, my classroom has over 2000 of my own books in it for them to learn from and enjoy. Having the individual book bins allows the students to store the books for easy access and it keeps the books from becoming torn up in their desks.
I have been contemplating spending my own money on purchasing these resources.
Your generous gift will allow me to save that money to be used on purchasing more books for my classroom. Using these book bins will help to teach my students how important the written word is and how to properly and safely care for books.
